About us
Welcome to IceBerg Solar.
My name is Andries Van den Berg. My family and I arrived in the Okanagan Valley in 2023, I am not new to the solar industry though.
I have been delivering solar projects since 2007. I qualified as an electrical engineer in 2005 and after working for a year decided to start my own business doing solar. I’ve seen the solar industry and products develop and change over the years and become more affordable and the product more user-friendly. It is truly an exciting time to be in the industry now.
I have done over 400 installations doing everything from the design to installation to the service of all my projects, ranging from domestic to commercial grid tie, backup systems and a great deal of off-grid projects.
We immigrated to Canada in August of 2011. After working for a solar company on Vancouver island for a few months I was promoted to production manager and then to general manager shortly after, where I stayed until the end of 2022. At the end of 2022 I took the Canadian electrical test and qualified as a journeyman electrician to have some local electrical credentials.
My wife and I have been happily married for 15 years and have 3 fantastic children. We decided to move to the Okanagan to start a business and put down our roots and raise our children here.
Verne Schier has recently joined IceBerg Solar, here is a little bit about him:
My wife’s family goes back for three generations and mine for four, here in the Vernon/Coldstream areas. Born and raised in the Kootenays, then working in Alberta for three years was amazing.
Returning to my great grandfather’s stomping grounds was an exciting move for me as most summers were spent here growing up. This area means the world to us! We are both educators and not by coincidence, Environmental Science and Financial Literacy have been perhaps the most meaningful part of our curriculum every year.
We had the honour of meeting and getting to know Andries and his wonderful family two years ago. I have personally wanted to “Go Solar” for over twenty years and it has finally become attainable by regular families like ours. I learned about Andries’ Electrical Engineering AND Red Seal Journeyman Electrician credentials that he earned, as well as his extensive knowledge and experience with Solar Systems in two countries and three cities.
It was an easy decision to have him engineer a system for our home last fall. I asked Andries, after my install and experience of benefiting from Solar, if I could somehow get involved with the Clean Energy Movement. Two weeks before writing this bio, he approached me about partnering up – Here I am – All in!
It is a thrill for me to consult with anyone who has an interest in this amazing green technology, and going through the financial benefits that, for me, I estimate way over $100,000. savings. Think I’m crazy? I would like to prove just how crazy I am… for not jumping onboard way earlier! Leave me a message and I will get back to you within 24 hours. I’m old-fashioned and therefore don’t drop everything to pick up my phone. I also won’t interrupt a conversation with anyone, including you. People are important to me and I respect your time.
